Better results with ARESTIN
In a clinical trial, ARESTIN (minocycline HCl) Microspheres, 1 mg added to SRP provided better results than SRP alone:
22% more reduction of pocket depth after 9 months1*
Nearly 20% more effective at reducing harmful bacteria
Nearly 2X more effective at reducing gum bleeding‡
The most common adverse events in the Arestin group > 1% over any of the other treatment arms include: dental pain, swollen gums, headache, mouth ulcers, Flu like symptoms, sore throat, pain, stomach upset, and mucous membrane disorder.
*SRP + vehicle, and (3) SRP + ARESTIN. Retreatment occurred at 3 and 6 months after initial treatment, and any new site with pocket depth ≥5 mm also received treatment. Patients treated with ARESTIN were found to have statistically significantly reduced probing pocket depth compared with those treated with SRP alone or SRP + vehicle at 9 months after initial treatment. ARESTIN vs SRP alone (n=250) p<0.01; ARESTIN vs vehicle + SRP (n=249) p<0.001; ARESTIN + SRP vs vehicle (n=249) p<0.001.
‡ In clinical studies, dental professionals assessed how many pockets 5 mm or deeper bled when touched during examination.
During treatment, ARESTIN (minocycline HCl) Microspheres, 1 mg is applied to infected gum pockets after scaling and root planing (SRP) has been performed. Your dental professional may apply ARESTIN during the same visit as your SRP or during a follow-up visit.
Treatment application at the site of infection is easy with ARESTIN and doesn't require any needles or anesthesia
What to do after treatment
For 1 week following treatment:
For 10 days following treatment:
If you have pain, swelling, or signs of an allergic reaction (itching, swelling, rash, reddening, or difficulty breathing) contact your dental professional right away.
Do not take ARESTIN if you are allergic to minocycline or tetracyclines. Ask your dental professional or pharmacist for a list of these drugs if you are not sure. Tell your dentist right away if you have any sign of allergic reaction, such as skin reactions or trouble breathing, or if you have an exaggerated sunburn reaction.
You should also avoid ARESTIN if you are pregnant or nursing. ARESTIN should not be used in children. The use of tetracycline during tooth development can result in permanent discoloration of the teeth.
The most commonly reported non-dental side effects in clinical studies were:
