MODE OF ACTION
ARESTIN® (minocycline hydrochloride) Microspheres, 1 mg contains the antibiotic minocycline, a member of the tetracycline class of antibiotics. Minocycline exerts its antimicrobial activity by inhibiting protein synthesis and has been shown to be effective against the pathogens associated with periodontal disease.
How ARESTIN® Microspheres work
Once ARESTIN® is inserted, it immediately adheres to the periodontal pocket. Gingival crevicular fluid hydrolyzes the polymer, causing water-filled channels to form inside the Microspheres, allowing a controlled, sustained release of minocycline.

Minocycline effectively treats periodontal pathogens4
Minocycline achieves minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) levels well above those reported for common periodontal pathogens, effectively treating the harmful bacteria that cause periodontal disease.20

Adding ARESTIN® makes a significant difference
The leading locally administered antibiotic (LAA), ARESTIN®, delivers a sustained dose of minocycline—a broad-spectrum, semisynthetic tetracycline derivative—directly to infected pockets, helping to kill the bacteria that SRP can leave behind.4
